Thomas Lyon lost his life when he was struck by an allegedly impaired driver at 21905 Front Beach Road. The crash occurred when a group of vacationing pedestrians were crossing from the north shoulder to the south shoulder. Reports state that a Nissan Altima traveling east was exceeding the speed limit and fatally struck one of the pedestrians. Tragically, the victim, was pronounced dead at the scene by FHP officials. A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver was under the influence, resulting in an arrest. The suspect, 39-year-old Casey Austin Rattan of Panama City Beach, has been charged with DUI Manslaughter and Vehicular Homicide and is currently in custody.
