Patrick Mays was tragically killed when a tractor-trailer collided with a car on Interstate 77 near the Langtree Road exit. According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, a southbound 2021 Volvo tractor-trailer struck a 2006 Ford Focus that was stopped for traffic in the right lane. The truck did not adequately reduce speed when it struck the car. A passenger in the Ford, 66-year-old Patrick Mays, was killed in the collision. The driver of the tractor-trailer was arrested and charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to reduce speed. He is currently being held at the Iredell County Jail on $15,000 bond.
