The traffic signals at the intersection with U.S. Highway 29 were not functioning due to a power outage when the Kia and a 2021 Cadillac collided. The boy, Jacobe, was transported to Cherokee Medical Center and then airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. The accident remains under investigation.
