Mantilla was hit from behind by a Honda Civic driven by 24-year-old Elmer Josue Santizo-Gomez, who allegedly fled the scene, but was later apprehended by police. Mantilla was rushed to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where he tragically later died. Santizo-Gomez was charged with improper passing of bicyclist, DUI; hit and run, and vehicular homicide.
