Bicycle hit-and-run crash on Stockdale Highway

A tragic accident occurred on June 20 in Bakersfield, California, when 66-year-old Gabriel Ortiz was fatally injured in a suspected DUI hit-and-run bicycle crash at Stockdale Highway and Calloway Drive around 1 a.m. Authorities said Ortiz was struck while riding through a crosswalk. A 49-year-old driver was later arrested on vehicular manslaughter charges. The investigation remains ongoing. We send thoughts and prayers to the victim’s family.
