According to authorities, Holguin was traveling west on the Union Avenue off-ramp from westbound State Highway 178 shortly after 9 p.m. when she was hit by a Honda sedan traveling in the same direction. She was thrown from the bicycle and later died from her injuries. The 23-year-old driver of the Honda remained at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
