A tragic accident occurred on May 1 in Walnut Creek, California, when 42-year-old Shanell Smith was killed in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 680 near Treat Boulevard. Authorities said a driver traveling southbound in the northbound lanes collided with multiple vehicles, causing a chain-reaction crash. Smith, a passenger in one of the vehicles, died from her injuries. Several others were injured, and the suspected impaired driver was arrested.
