32-Year-Old Mary Zmuda Injured In Dubuque, IA Accident

Tragic accident that occurred on April 19th in Dubuque, Iowa. 32-year-old Mary Zmuda was walking on a sidewalk in the 500 block of Main Street when she was struck by a northbound vehicle. The driver, 83-year-old Arlene A. Hanssen was making a legal U-turn when she hit the victim. Hanssen told police that her foot had slipped from the brake to the accelerator, causing her vehicle to shoot forward and strike the Zmudas before hitting a nearby tree. Zmudas was taken by ambulance to MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center for treatment. Hanssen was cited for failure to maintain control of her vehicle. We send our thoughts and prayers to the victim.
