Roman Bernal, 28, was driving a dark-colored sedan southbound in the 1300 block of Chester Avenue when he hit the pedestrian, who was crossing near California Avenue. The pedestrian later died from injuries sustained in the crash. Bernal fled the scene, but he was arrested on May 12, 2025, on charges of vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run causing death, and destruction of evidence.
