The name of the officer is being withheld at the request of his family. The Illinois State police, Cook County sheriffs office, Oaklawn Police Department, and Evergreen Park Police Department are all assisting with the ongoing investigation. The veteran officer was on the scene of a crash when a vehicle hit him at around 3:11 AM.
