Chloe Hardy was driving a Toyota 4Runner along U.S. Highway 231 when her vehicle was struck by a 2000 GMC 1500 pickup truck. The impact caused the Toyota to collide head-on with a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado, and then a 2012 Ford F-250 pickup truck. Hardy, along with her passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
