Anthony B. Smith was charged in connection with the crash. The unidentified victim was struck by a Honda CR-V driven by Smith on Carson Road. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Smith veered off the roadway, onto the shoulder, striking the pedestrian. Smith fled the scene but was apprehended a short time later. He was charged with felony voluntary manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol and causing bodily injury.
