The accident occurred when a Volvo truck tractor towing a semi trailer operated by 26-year-old Jaafar Eskander was struck from behind by 37-year-old Jose Saenz who failed to control the speed of his Kenworth tractor trailer towing a semi trailer. As a result, the big rig struck Martinez's GMC Sierra which was towing a utility trailer. Martinez and four passengers in the SUV were transported to Martin County hospital for treatment of their injuries.
