The northbound lanes merged into a single lane when two vehicles collided near Avenue 15. The sedan spun out of control into the southbound lanes and collided head-on with an SUV. Kalia Emani Bess, the driver of the sedan, died in the collision, the sheriff's office said. The SUV driver suffered major injuries and was airlifted to an area hospital. The accident remains under investigation by CHP.
